Description

Ka Hale A Ke Ola Homeless Resource Centers, Inc. Peer support (sometimes also referred to as mutual support) is a supportive relationship between people who have a lived experience in common. KHAKO recognizes, for our agency, the experience individuals have in common is homelessness. A peer support relationship can take different forms, as can a peer support role. Peer support can be formally organized by the paid staff of a homeless organization, or be structured more informally by clients themselves. What formally organized or informally organized peer support systems have in common is that at least one element of the support that clients receive is provided by other people with lived experience of homelessness. Peer support help may include sharing experiences with how to find housing, navigating the healthcare system, employment referrals and experiential sharing, learning to care for housing, tenancy success assistance, childcare referrals, etc. KHAKO is seeking community input regarding the potential to start a peer support group for the participants of the homeless shelters. If you are interested in this type of support for the homeless, please respond to this post with the subject line "Peer Support Group". Mahalo!!
