The Community is Invited to Participate as Laughing Owl Press Collaborates with Artist John Schlimm to Create “Smiles to the Sky: THE SMILE THAT CHANGED THE WORLD (is yours) 3-D” Kane, PA – Inspired by the grand opening of the Six & Kane building and to celebrate all the positive progress in Kane, Laughing Owl Press (59 N. Fraley Street, Kane, PA) is collaborating with international award-winning author, artist, and mental health advocate John Schlimm to create the community-based, participatory and interactive art installation “Smiles to the Sky: THE SMILE THAT CHANGED THE WORLD (is yours) 3-D” on Friday, October 7, during the shop small hours 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. At this free interactive drop-in event, each participant of any age will be invited to create their unique smile on a die-cut disk that will then be incorporated into a larger 3-D art piece representing how a smile can change the world for each one of us. Each person will then be given a self-affirmation word art piece to take home with them that reads: “The smile that changed the world is mine!” “The ‘Smiles to the Sky’ sculpture will be built as a reminder that each one of us has importance, purpose, and is not alone,” said John Schlimm. “This is a message of self- and community-empowerment that is needed now more than ever by all of us.” Since 2014, John has installed THE SMILE THAT CHANGED THE WORLD (is yours) as a participatory and interactive mural around the country, inviting thousands of people of all ages and walks of life to add their smiles. “Smiles to the Sky” at Laughing Owl Press will be the first 3-D edition of the project. “This local collaboration will be a spectacular symbol of how Kane is showcasing itself as a small town that can unite people from all walks of life,” said Laughing Owl Press Founders Joe and Andrea Lanich. “And all for one common goal: ‘To strive to become better than we were yesterday.’” In addition to the October 7 event at Laughing Owl Press, other local Kane businesses will also have the discs available for adding and collecting smiles throughout the preceding week. _____________________________________________________________________________________ Laughing Owl Press was founded in 2010 by Joe and Andrea Lanich.
