“Little Orphant Annie” Talk Sunday GREENFIELD- - “Little Orphan Annie” - - Are you familiar with the character who sings, “The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow?” Do you know Radio Orphan Annie’s catch phrase, “Leapin Lizards?” Are you familiar with the red-haired orphan from the longest-running comic strip in American history? How about the connection between Orphan Annie and Raggedy Ann? All of these characters can trace their origin back to an 1885 poem by James Whitcomb Riley, entitled “Little Orphant Annie,” which happens to be this year’s theme for the upcoming 2022 Riley Festival in Greenfield. If you would like to learn more about the “Little Orphan Annie” character – in all of her shapes and forms – as well as the real person who inspired it all, then the Hancock County Historical Society has just the event for you! Local historian, Brigette Cook Jones, will be presenting her “Little Orphan Annie Talk” on Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 6pm at the Hancock County Historical Society’s Chapel in the Park Museum. The Museum is located at 28 N. Apple St., Greenfield, IN. There is free admission to this event; however, donations will be gladly accepted. The Hancock County Historical Society, a not-for-profit organization, was established in 1964 to maintain and perpetuate the history of Hancock County, Indiana. The society currently owns and operates the Old Log Jail Museum and the Chapel in the Park Museum, located at the corner of Apple and Main Streets in Greenfield. The society is also responsible for maintaining and preserving the collection of artifacts, which are kept at both of those locations.
