Description
About this event Santa Clara County is in a severe drought - so severe that Valley Water, the county's water provider, is requiring a 15% decrease in water usage over 2019 levels. Everyone needs to do their part. One thing you can do is learn more about the county's water systems and how they work to bring us this precious resource. So Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition and Valley Water have teamed up to help you Ride Out the Drought (#ROtD)! We're kicking off this free, month-long event with a fun way to learn about the county's water delivery system. We'll start at the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center with breakfast munchies, then tour the center. After that, we'll have two bike rides that leave from the Purification Center. If you want something family friendly or to take it easy, join the 5-mile bike tour that will head to the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge. If you'd like something a little longer, join the 11-mile guided bike tour that takes in the Refuge plus additional water landmarks. Both tours end back at the Purification Center, where we'll have ice cream waiting for you! All participants will be entered into a raffle for a gift card to a local bike shop! You must be present to win. Register today! Here's the schedule • 8-9am: check in • 9-9:30am: photos and a few words • 9:30-10:30am: Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center tours • 10:30am-12noon: Bicycle rides • 12-1pm: Ice cream for bicycle riders and raffle (must be present to win) We do have a few rules for the Kickoff event: • Face masks must be worn when inside. Most of the event is outside but the tour of the Purification Center takes place inside. • Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian at all times. • For safety purposes, closed-toe shoes are required for all participants as there is a walking tour of a working facility. • High heels and sandals are not permitted. • Please check the weather and dress appropriately for both outdoor/ indoor settings. • Light rain will not cancel the walking tour. • Failure to comply with this protocol will prohibit one's participation in the tour. • To participate in the bicycle tours all participants must also bring working bicycles and helmets. *Note: Emplovees of SVBC and Valley Water and their families may participate but are not eligible for any prizes.
