Training Days: Part I: Thursday, December 1, 2022, 8:30am - 3:00pm EST Part II: Thursday, December 8, 2022, 8:30am - 3:00pm ESTAn impactful and engaging education system puts people first – students, parents, teachers, community members – and human-centered design (HCD) provides the toolbox and mindset to ensure your system stays agile and responsive to your stakeholders now and into the future. This training will introduce educators to design thinking and more specifically, human-centered design. HCD is a subset of design thinking that focuses on empathy as a means for problem-solving—know your students well and instruction will better meet their needs. Understand the challenges facing your community and you can adapt to its priorities. Our two-day training will focus on the five phases of the design cycle and how a variety of human-centered design (HCD) methods can be applied throughout your classroom and your district. Additionally, the training will cover how to link methods together to develop solutions to unique challenges. The goal of this training is to provide a baseline of understanding so that participants have the knowledge and skills necessary to begin implementing HCD in their systems. This training includes direct instruction, individual and group activities, as well as time for participants to begin planning their own HCD method sets. Additional explainer videos (examples below) and design templates will be available via a companion Google site. In addition to the in-person training, Consortium staff will be available via Zoom throughout the school year to help support your design work by answering questions and workshopping design methods and applications. We want to make sure that design-thinking works for you and your students, and we will be there to support you in your journey! Have questions about this training?
