The annual design charette is an opportunity for the best and brightest students to showcase their abilities in a one-day design challenge! This year's charette will be held in person with teams being comprised of students from different schools and years, coming together to work toward one solution. Each team will present their solution to a jury of esteemed interior designers, architects, and industry leaders. Winners will advance on to the IIDA Western Region Student Design Charette event in April 2023. Member Student: IIDA Student Member and currently enrolled in an Interior Design or related undergraduate college program in Oregon. Non-Member Student: Non-member Student currently enrolled in an Interior Design or related undergraduate college program in Oregon *If a Non-member Student is on a winning team at the local charette, a portion of their winnings will be used to register for an IIDA Student Membership prior to the regional charette, as membership is mandatory to participate.Your health and safety are important to us! Please do not attend if you are sick or experience COVID-19 symptoms within 10 days of the charrette.Frequently Asked QuestionsQ: What is a charette/what does it entail? A: The charette is a fast-paced mini design problem where you get to strategize and work with fellow interior design students from other schools. Q: Who will I be teamed with? A: Each team will be composed of students from various grade levels and differing schools. This challenge allows you the chance to work with students you might not normally work with! Q: How much experience do I need or what do I need to prepare? A: No experience needed! Just come with a positive attitude and a willingness to dive in and learn from the experience. Q: What are the benefits of participating? A: You will have the opportunity to get cool swag, network and work with students from other schools, and the chance to win a cash prize, as well as advance to the Regional Charette, held in April in sunny Los Angeles. Q: What happens after the event? A: You will have fantastic memories! You’ll also be able to include your experience on your resume! Q: What is the prize for the winning team? A: Cash Prize! $1,400 for the First Place Team and $700 for the Second Place Team. The First Place Team will also get an all expense paid trip to the Regional Charette. Q: What do I need to bring with me? A: Bring whatever supplies you’d like! We’d recommend trace paper, some pens and pencils to sketch, a ruler, prisma markers or colored pencils. The only thing that isn’t allowed are material samples (we’ll provide those) or technology (no laptops or phones). Q: How do I get there? A: Drive or carpool! Transportation reimbursement will be provided to students outside of Eugene, Oregon who drive to the charette. Q: Will food be provided? A: Yes! Lunch will be provided during the event. Q: How much does it cost to participate? A: Free for IIDA Student Members, $10 for Non-Member Students. Additional Questions?
