Inspired by the unconventional life of Elizabeth Derby West, who challenged social order with both her actions and her clothing choices, Grace & Diggs explores the connection between defiance and ostentatious dress in this multi-scene photoshoot environment. From the creator of Miss Havisham’s Parlour, Order & Ostentation is a ticketed, reservation-only photo experience. THE ORDER & OSTENTATION STORY History is filled with women who rocked the boat—either by choice or out of lack of it. Elizabeth Derby West, born in 1762 to one of Salem’s wealthiest families, was described as “vain,” “capricious,” and “ostentatious” by the local minister as she put up a scandalous fight to keep her inheritance during divorce proceedings with her adulterating husband. Perhaps her ostentation in clothing grew from the same spirit it took to stand up for herself in court, in spite of what they said about her in the streets. Coming to Old Town Hall this fall, we've drawn inspiration from Elizabeth's story to create two immersive selfie environments that are handcrafted from recycled materials and the perfect space to embrace boldness by yourself or with a group. Play dress up, stage a style rebellion, and capture it all on camera. THE SELFIE SESSION EXPERIENCE Order & Ostentation is a private, do-it-yourself photoshoot experience. During this experience, you will use your own smartphone or camera device to take photos. Your individual or group ticket includes: 30 minutes per reservation for uninterrupted, unabashed content creationAccess to two wildly different interactive environments with several photo-staging opportunities within each setMultiple Grace & Diggs headpieces, fascinators, and accessories available to pair with your own street wear or costume Selfie technology to assist with solo and group photos, such as phone stands and ring lightsAssistance, if needed, with picture taking and posing recommendationsImmediate access and complete control over your selfies, photos, and videos on your deviceRECOMMENDATIONS & REFUND POLICY Parking: During the Halloween season, parking in Salem is a challenge. Please give yourself ample time if you are driving into Salem for your visit. We recommend budgeting an extra 3 hours in advance of your appointment if you are driving in on the weekends. Traffic is slow and parking is scarce! Arrival: Please arrive a few minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time so that we may check you in and provide you with a full content creation session. If you show up late, we cannot extend your appointment time and you may not experience the full value of your photo session. Refunds: Refunds can only be requested on Eventbrite or with Grace & Diggs up to 24 hours prior to your appointment.
