Description

*In Person only* What would it be like to be full of enthusiasm for spiritual practice without pushing and without discouragement? How about having powerful and reliable focus? We can utilize ancient Buddhist teachings in our modern daily lives with these two inner habits of joyful effort and concentration. Oct 4 - Dealing with Discouragement Discouragement is a common problem these days and often leaves us feeling inadequate and powerless. When discouragement penetrates our spiritual practice, it can become a debilitating type of laziness. Come learn how Buddha’s teachings can help us gain the ability to uplift our own mind so that we feel confident and spiritually strong. Oct 11 - Making your Meditation Work (with Kathleen Thurston) Most people have heard that meditation is good for peace of mind, happiness, and even our health, but it can be hard to find the time and energy we need to meditate consistently. What are we missing? Buddha taught that the secret ingredient is joyful effort – a mind that is delighted to practice. Oct 18 - No class, International Fall Festival in NY Oct 25 - The Peace of Concentration If our mind is like a well-trained horse, it is responsive and obedient. Imagine relaxing into the confidence of a consistently calm, flexible, and supportive mind. We would be free from tension and our meditations would easily be successful and rewarding. Insights would flow into our minds and we would be ever growing, ever evolving throughout our life.
