Dear Jazz Players, I host monthly Saturday afternoon Jazz Jams at my home in West San Jose from 1 - 5 PM. The next Jam is on 10/29. This will be our 7th Jam. **** If you are interested, please respond via craigslist with an email address you regularly check***** **** I won't respond to inquiries that don't include an email or chase down people I don't hear back from**** I will send you a link to a form to sign up. Once I have your completed form, I will send you more information. FYI: If you registered for a previous jam, check your email for an invitation from me, it will contain a link to the new registration form. Jam Description: - Skill levels range from Beginner to Pro - - Beginners need to be competent with their instrument, popular jazz standards, reading, and following the form. - - (FYI-Beginners - Our beginner's slots are full. If you are interested, I will put you on a waiting list and let you know if a slot comes open. - Typically, we have 4 combos with 6 players each. Between 18 - 24 players attend. Combos are arranged by skill level. The first combo is designed to support beginners. The last combo is designed to support advanced players. - Each combo plays for 50 minutes. - We use the latest editions of the Real Books 1v6, 2v2. - The Jam is outside on the back deck under the shade of a big oak tree. - This is a residential neighborhood, so there is plenty of parking. Equipment Considerations - Bring - - The most current Versions of the Real Book 1 & 2 - - - FYI, We have an Electronic Music Library you can access - - A Music Stand - - Your favorite beverage. - Drummers: I have a quality kit you are welcome to use. - Keyboards: I recommend you bring your own keyboards. An entry-level weighted 88 key Casio, and a sustain peddle is available. Its action is ok but has a limited set of voicings. There is also a piano stool and stand and a decent amp you are welcome to use. - Vocalists: We'd love to have you. If you are particular about your sound and have a mobile PA, bring it. If not, I have Sure M58 Mics, Mic stands straight and boom, and a Fender 2 Channel 100W Amp designed to support a guitar and vocalist that you are welcome to use. Here's what people like about this Jam - It's well organized & maximizes playing time - - Players are assigned to combos typically 3 weeks in advance - - Players submit and vote on tunes. They include Youtube examples of the tunes and Real Book page references - - Combo leaders are assigned in advance and put together a set list at least 2 weeks before the jam - - - They sketch out tune beginnings and endings and the style and tempo in which they will be played - - - This gives everyone a chance to familiarize themselves with the tunes and practice them before the jam - It's supportive of all levels of musicians - There is a potluck after that gives people a chance to socialize - Family and friends are welcome.
