Description
The Main Act: Since we are only doing a few events here this year, we are trying to make them exceptional events. This party features a string band "supergroup." Mr. Sun comprises two generations of some of the sharpest minds to apply themselves to the American String Band. Legendary fiddler Darol Anger is at home in a number of musical genres, some of which he helped to invent, and is a member of the original "nuclear" generation of pickers who extended Bluegrass, Jazz, and Classical music to find their common ground; Mr Sun is the latest iteration in that legacy. Joe K. Walsh is one of the foremost contemporary mandolinists, with 4 award-winning years in the Gibson Brothers, 3 solo recordings, and a Berklee professorship. Grant Gordy is a standout in the crowded field of Acoustic Guitar Wunderkinds. Grant's work was quickly recognized for its kaleidoscopic excellence and startling emotion, fusing Jazz, R&B, and Bluegrass concepts to an unprecedented degree. The group recently added the masterful bassist Aidan O'Donnell, a Brooklyn, New York (by way of Scotland) jazz veteran. Their new album, Extrovert, is pretty much in daily rotation on Rosanna. I am very excited to see and hear this amazing music performed live and up close. More information at http://www.mrsunband.com/. Shelf Life String Band will kick off the party. For all the times that I have heard these local string band superstars perform (mostly at the Park House), I am not sure I have ever seen them in the daylight! I am excited for this new experience, and Joe Dep is very excited to perform on the same bill as his former Berklee professor, Joe K. Walsh. Maybe a super-supergroup will spontaneously form? More information about SLSB at: https://www.shelflifestringband.com/ Logistics: We are styling this one as a picnic rather than a potluck. BYOE (everything) but you don't need to prepare or bring anything to share. We will have cold water to share. Please follow the posted parking instructions as you enter the property. Kids are very welcome provided they stay with and are supervised by their adult(s). There will be a nice porta-potty with a hand-washing sink. Since this party is on a Sunday in Pittsburgh we may turn on the TV in the garage , far away from the music. Inclement weather could result in us moving the show to another location very close by. We will watch what is going on with COVID, etc. as the show approaches and ask that you comply with all applicable CDC and ACHD recommendations. "Gates" open at 2, music at 3. Our property is a weapon-free zone. Celebrate Life !
