Samson, my 4yr old Coonhound is in need of a new home. He weighs 75lb. He is neutered. He is updated on vaccines and has no health issues. He does well with other dogs and cats and has lived with both. He lived in a shelter for the first two years of his life before I adopted him. I really want to find him a home to live in rather than putting him back in a shelter. I’d be so grateful to find a loving home for him! The rehoming fee is $200. Overall, he is a good boy, but he needs more activity and attention than I can give. I grew up with labs and didn’t know what I was getting with a hound and my life has changed soo much in the last 2 years. Samson and I are no longer a good fit. He likes independent outside time so a yard is ideal, or frequent dog park trips are great too. Once he’s gotten activity, he loves to nap and rest in his own space. He can be a big cuddle bug as the day wraps up! He has behavioral issues that can be handled either through mitigation & prevention, by someone who has experience with hounds, or through the training of an animal behavioralist. These behaviors include getting into the trash when I leave him at home for hours and going potty inside if I’m not getting him enough outside activity. He always want to smell what you have as you’re moving through the kitchen or eating dinner so having a separate space for him during meal time is valuable. And when he gets excited or has a need he wants to ask for, he can be high energy and bump into you or paw at your legs - I mention this because it can be a hazard for small children and simply frustrating. Samson needs someone who is patient and loving and who loves nature as much as he does. I think Samson would do well with someone, or a couple, who is active and has a house and yard. Ideally you have experience with hounds or dogs with a similar temperament. If you think Samson is a fit for you, please reach out!
