According to the CDC, more than 107,000 Americans lost their lives to fatal overdoses in 2021. Addiction is a public health crisis, more than one third of Americans have been directly affected by it. As the addiction crisis continues to escalate, overdoses are now the leading cause of accidental death in the United States. Only one in ten who need addiction treatment ever receive it.
Action is required at the local level to assist those families affected by the disease of addiction. The mobilization of the community is the first step that can be taken to combat addiction.
