But who is Massimo Izzo? & why is this an exhibition not to be missed? Check out excerpts from a 2016 New York Times article on Massimo and why his craft is an important addition to the canon of great Sicilian art. _______________________ Massimo Izzo’s designs are an ode to his native Sicily, Hellenic beauty and a life spent along the Mediterranean. In an interview with The New York Times, “Underwater life enchants me,” he said. “That is why elements such as sea horses, octopuses, starfish, crabs and corals take center stage on my jewels.” From a 2016 interview with Carol Woolton, jewelry editor of British Vogue, “Massimo’s work brings Sicily alive using vast vibrant gemstones, coral and gold work which are redolent of the rich fruits, flowers and coastlines. He’s working in the tradition of the great master jeweler Fulco di Verdura creating visual effects that bring to mind the bright sights of the Italian island.” Massimo says one his greatest accomplishments has been untethering himself from the rigid style of traditional Sicilian jewelers: “I wanted to experiment with new methods, materials and shapes.” Over the years, his travels from the diamond-cutting rooms of Valenza in northern Italy to remote gemstone quarries have led him to innovations. “It’s as if the stones hold my hands and accompany me through a creative and inspirational voyage,” he said. “The jewel itself is the journey’s end, not the point of departure.” __________________________ RSVP today for the exhibition of the holiday season and find the perfect little luxury for the lover of Sicilian culture in your life. We offer an edited selection of chic, versatile, and sustainably produced garments and accessories from Spain, France, Portugal, Denmark, and more. Committed to quality over quantity, we’re on a mission to make our clientele's closets easier to shop by providing new, interesting designs for every role they play: the Momtrepreneur, the Traveler, the Artist, the Trendsetter, et., ALL. And we work with brands that respect people and the planet. These choices are simple, but significant. Additionally, Bacall & Bogie is a place to gather. In the post COVID-world we wanted to return to a better and stronger community than we had before, so we created it. Whether it's an art exhibit, food and bev tasting, artist workshop, you name it, we want this to be a place for you to come and experience something new. "When asked why I started Bacall and Bogie, the answer is pretty straightforward: I am different than I was before. During that first spring of COVID, I remember seeing the cherry blossom blooms brighter than they ever have been. The sky was bluer. The Venetian canals ran clear. It became even more apparent that the way we treat the environment needed to change, and if it did, we could reap the benefits. Our purchasing power and the decision to support sustainable and ethical brands has a major impact on that. Then, last summer, I had a baby. I have a new appreciation for how precious life is; how precious the planet, the places, and the people I love are. I want living in the moment with my family and friends to be my primary focus. Bacall & Bogie allows me to pursue my passions by creating a place that fosters community and creativity. All the while making our clientele feel great and look chic. Our entire ethos is about turning the smallest moments into something special, even if it's just getting dressed in the morning. Because we know that simple choices can have a significant impact."
