Description

Press release from the Town of Stoneham: January 5, 2021 The Massachusetts Chapter of the American Planning Association recently awarded the Town of Stoneham with the 2020 Communication and Journalism Award for its Stoneham Counts project. Stoneham Counts was an intentional, multimedia journalistic approach to encouraging residents to participate in the decennial census. The committee embraced the task and approached this large planning undertaking as an opportunity to communicate and engage with the public. The Town was able to see the results immediately – every census block responded at a higher percentage by May 1, 2020, than it did at the end of the 2010 collection. Additionally, this process stressed the importance of engaging the public in a multitude of ways. Not only was the public more educated on the topic, but it also had a lot of fun participating throughout the process.
