Seeking groove-oriented drummer or percussionist

I'm a seasoned bassist looking to build a music family organically here in San Diego after moving here from Hollywood. Interested in growing something new out from the roots, so not especially into playing covers, except as an inroad into invention and discovery. Maybe it turns into a band that performs live, maybe it turns into recordings. Music is life. The best music flows organically from who the players are, and from the music that they love. Here are some of my inspirations: James Brown, Miles Davis, Talking Heads, Pink Floyd, Sly and the Family Stone, DJ Premier, Radiohead, Velvet Underground, Sade, Bill Withers, St. Germain, Nina Simone, Lauryn Hill, the Beatles, Massive Attack, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Gustavo Santolalla, Pete Rock and CL Smooth, Zap Mama, Cesaria Evora, John Lee Hooker, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Charles Mingus, Buena Vista Social Club, Santana, Toumani Diabate, Khrouangbin.... I'm thinking to start with the rhythm section, but if this sounds good to anyone else, I'm happy to meet singers, rappers, instrumentalists, electronica producers, DJ's, or anyone else who expresses themselves through music and might like to play with a bassist. I value eclecticism, diversity, soulfulness, and positivity.
