I recently moved my mom (75 yrs old) to Austin, and am looking for a good natured and friendly person to help her get out there and adjust to a new city!
A little backstory -- about a year ago, some idiot rammed into her car because he was looking at his phone, and gave her a bad concussion. Ever since, she's had a harder time organizing her own life, and a harder time taking initiative to get out and do things. Also ever since the concussion, she isn't safe to drive. So I moved her to be closer to me so that I could help her find a new balance to life. But I have a day job, and that's where you come in!
This job will be 10-20 hours / wk, in-person with my mom. Mostly this will involve helping her run errands or taking care of a few things around her place (washing dishes, etc.), and being her companion for getting out of the house, e.g. going on a walk, going to Barton Springs, going to other events around town, or just taking her out shopping. You'll also help keep a list of events that are going on around town, to help her meet others and make friends.
There is a little bit of flexibility around meeting days and times, but in general you should be able to meet 12pm-3pm most days of the week, including the weekend, and be able to (at least occasionally) start earlier than 12pm, or stay later than 3pm.
Requirements are pretty basic!
You should have your own car, because she doesn't have one
You should be kind, accommodating, comfortable carrying your end of the conversation, and able to stay calm when she gets anxious, flustered, or hangry.
Having a flexible schedule!
