Susan Stern, Emmy-nominated filmmaker, Bernal resident and widow of Spain Rodriguez, presents a moving and thought-provoking portrayal of her husband who died in 2012. This film brings together many of the "stars" of underground comics including R. Crumb, founder of Zap Comix, Trina Robbins, author of he Flapper Queens: Women Cartoonists of the Jazz Age and Pretty in Ink: Women Cartoonists 1896-2013, Art Spiegelman, winner of the Pulitzer Prize for his graphic novel Maus, and many others who offer their reflections on Spain's work and legacy. Rodriguez's beautifully rendered art was raunchy, politically radical, and sometimes willfully offensive.
The film's poster above warns "For Adult Intellectuals Only," because the art and artist profiled in this documentary challenged many sacred cows of an earlier time and continues to this day.
