Below the ground, intricate networks of microorganisms thrive in our soils. As they consume, grow and multiply, these networks collaborate to build access points for life in all its forms to attain the water, oxygen, and nutrients necessary for health and resilience. Just as these incredible microbial networks collaborate below the ground for building support and resilience, above the ground, over ten million Angelenos hold the potential to do the same. This human network of community composters engages with the full story of our food and our soils, with every action they take - whether it’s turning a compost pile, contributing household kitchen scraps to a local composting effort, or attending an educational event. Through these collective actions, we not only turn “waste” into a local resource but build our community wellness and resilience against the effects of climate change. Allow us to honor you, a member of this inspirational human network, during this year’s 2022 Annual Gratitude Party to be held on Friday, October 21st from 4-7 PM at the Audubon Center at Debs Park in Los Angeles. The evening will include a live DJ, food and drink provided by some of LA’s most delicious local vendors, a Sustainable Raffle with intentional items to aid your low-waste journey, and creative activities for all ages. During this event, we will honor this year's Community Compost Champions, three individuals who have served as advocates for our work this past year. We hope you’ll join us. If the parking lot is full, please park along Griffin Ave and walk up the driveway to the Center. Parking along the driveway or traffic circle is not permitted under any circumstance as these are fire lanes that must remain clear. The Center does not monitor Griffin Ave. and street parking is at the driver's own risk. If you have a physical condition that requires you to park in the parking lot close to the center entrance, please let us know by emailing [email protected] so we can reserve a parking spot for you. Pets Please leave pets at home as they are a disturbance to the Center's conservation efforts for our native wildlife. COVID-19 In line with the requirements for outdoor public events and spaces across our LA City, proof of vaccination will not be required to enter. Masks are optional and recommended in indoor spaces such as bathrooms. Dietary needs All food served at the event will be vegan and gluten-free. Catering is provided by Todo Verde.
