Description

Section 1 of the Walking City Trail winds through some of Boston's shaggiest urban woodlands. After rendezvousing at the Capen Street MBTA Station (part of the Ashmont-Mattapan trolley line), this guided hike will kick off at the Harvest River Bridge and continue into Boston through the following green spaces and residential neighborhoods: - Neponset River Reservation - Edgewater Greenway - Crane Ledge Woods (ledge views) - Sherrin Woods - Stony Brook Reservation - Adams Park PLEASE NOTE: This hike involves two small obstacles. The first is a 2-3 foot tall stone wall that must be climbed over (there is a bypass/detour option). The second is a parkway crossing with no crosswalk that must be done fairly quickly. If either of these pose any concern to you, please send me an email at [email protected] Along the way, we'll make stops for food and bathoom breaks, and the hike will conclude at Adams Park in Roslindale Village, where many bus lines offer easy access to Forest Hills MBTA Station and other transit routes. This hike is a rain-or-shine event, in the spirit of hiking! Unless we're talking dangerous weather events like extreme heat or a hurricane, in which case the hike will be rescheduled and refunds will be issued to anyone who had already registered for the hike. Capacity for the hike is 20 people. As much as I love the idea of a 50+ person procession of hikers taking over Boston, some of us would definitely get lost. 10 free tickets are available, along with 10 pay-what-you-want donation tickets. If you're able to comfortably make a trail donation, any amount you can manage is appreciated and the proceeds will go toward covering Walking City Trail website maintenance costs, expanding the trail resources this winter, and some bigger upcoming trail development projects that I'm very excited to announce in 2023.
