The "Wheated Bourbon Tasting" is a class specifically designed to explain the differences between secondary grains of rye bourbon and wheated bourbon.Bourbon is the only distilled spirit that can have absolutely no artificial flavoring or coloring added, it must be 100% natural. Most bourbons use three grains; having 51-80% corn, using Rye as the second grain along with Barley Malt as the third grain. This course will focus on bourbons with secondary (or flavoring) grain of Wheat. A small minority of bourbons use 7-30% wheat as the second grain. "Wheaters" as they're often called, can be a sweeter and softer type of bourbon. Some of the major brands in the tasting include; Pappy Van Winkle, Larceny, Bernheim, Woodford; as well as a Weller Rainbow to include Special Reserve, Antique 107, CYPB, Full Proof and Weller 12!
