Description
While you are leaving things, I have a few as well:
• I am very old. So, I see life differently than some of the younger folk here. I remember in the 1960's when the hippies were becoming relevant, and how fearful society were of them, how they felt it was the end of the world. In retrospect, they were not all that frightening, mostly rhetoric, and all assimilated, went to prison or mental hospitals or died of overdoses. A tempest in a teacup if you will.
• I see the Trump base as pretty much the same phenomenon. No one really was aware of them before 2016. They have had their day and will eventually in time either become anarchists and live that very unhappy life, become incarcerated in jails or mental hospitals, or become run of the mill Republicans.
• What makes me believe (in my humble opinion only) the MAGA Republicans are a short-term phenomenon is there is a real desperation in their rhetoric. You can read it all over the country on our board or on Twitter or other chat forums. The lies and misinformation have intensified. Also, a lot of the hippie counterculture became socially acceptable. We celebrated them in music, art, cinema, theater and even such things as men wearing long hair became fashionable amongst the most conservative of individuals. I have not seen any such crossover for the MAGAs.
• I see the real tipping point in the 2022 mid-term and the 2024 general elections. MAGA will have a dilemma. If they win, how will the reconcile that with their claim of fraudulent, stolen elections? If they lose, they will of course use those arguments that the American public are growing weary of.
Again, don't blow a gasket. One very old man's opinion only. Carry on.
