Description
Got an overabundance of both pallid and hissing roaches.
Pallids: 15 mixed for $5
small/medium Hissers: $1 each
Cage: $15 for a glass 10 gallon with lid. (They are USED, may need cleaned)
Adult, big hissers: $5 each - keep in mind, i don't keep track of each individual hisser. Some big ones might be fresh molted and have lots of life left, others might be on their way out. Get a big one at your own risk.
Both colonies are over 5 years old.
They can climb, so make sure whatever you keep them in has some petroleum jelly (or similar slick coating) on the inside edges. That said, if they do escape and aren't caught, they are likely to dessicate and die rather quickly. San Angelo is too dry for them to thrive.
If you don't know anything about pallids: they're excellent sustenance. They don't get very big and have a very soft body, making them easy to eat even if they're a little big for the animal in question. They also aren't extremely fast, so easy to chase down by even the laziest of creature.
Hissing roaches, in my opinion, are better as pets but still decent for nourishment. They get huge, though.
Maintenance: i keep both my hissers and pallids the exact same way. I've got some cage cleaners (helper bugs), and feed a variety of vegetable matter. Their staple food for water/nutrients are carrots, but they get a variety of foods, esp. when i clean out my fridge! You don't need to spray either down if kept in an appropriate container (i use regular glass aquariums with a mesh lid), they just need access to a water source (like carrots, but any number of vegetables will work).
