Matt Mitchell Music Company is an original Americana/Folk/Rock project hailing from the Pacific Northwest. Matt's songs are deeply heartfelt, original and engaging. The lyrics are the heart and soul of the tunes; informing the arrangements to create compelling and relatable narratives. Stylistically the songs are reminiscent of "The Band", leaning heavily on harmony, soulful grooves and psychedelic lead guitar. A Matt Mitchell Music Co. show will not only get an audience moving, but listeners just might learn something about themselves in the process. I began writing and performing music at the ripe, young age of five. (Thanks Mom!) I cut my musical teeth on piano and while I wasn't the best sight reader (or student in general) I did have a knack for songwriting and a natural ease for performance. Despite my lack-luster practicing habits, I kept at it all the way through high school and managed to establish a solid musical foundation. In 2005, after a year living abroad volunteering and traveling Europe, I joined the San Francisco based band Ten Mile Tide and spent the better part of the next six years touring the country as a keyboardist, harmonica player and singer. Music has afforded me the opportunity to travel to every state in the country aside from Florida. In 2011 I formed my own band; a six piece Americana/rock n' roll group called 'Folkinception'. The band was bestowed the honor of "Best Original Band" in 2018 and 2019 in the Pacific NW Inlander's 'Best Of' reader poll. In 2019 we changed the name to 'Trego'. The band recorded three, full length albums before going on hiatus back in 2021. At the start of 2020 I moved into a bus and spent the next few years traveling throughout the west. The tumult of the pandemic, the devolving state of society, personal loss and grief, living (and loving) a nomadic lifestyle... all of this has transformed who I am, how I plan to spend my time and the way I relate to music. I've emerged from this pivotal period of my life more resolved than ever to make music my primary purpose. 2022 marks the beginning of Matt Mitchell Music Company. I released "Captive Of The Mind" in January and "Ramona" is set to drop in October of this year. Depending on the gig, I perform solo, as a duo/trio acoustic act and quite often as a full on four/five piece band. I've adopted the model of playing with a rotating variety of musicians. This has been working exceedingly well and it's proven to be a great way to keep things fresh, experient musically and generally position myself to be more flexible when booking shows. I cannot stress enough how honored I am to share the stage with so many incredibly talented players.
