The purpose of the World Culture Festival - Hampton Roads Curtain Raiser is to showcase a sampling of our region’s rich diversity of culture and artistic expression and to inspire us to celebrate our unity in diversity. The curtain raiser will also kick off a five-month-long celebration of diversity, equity, and inclusivity (DEI) events culminating with a Grand Finale to be held on March 25, 2023, at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. The WCF Grand Finale Event is a collaboration event with the City of Virginia Beach Mayor’s I.D.E.A. Commission led by Dr. Amelia Ross-Hammond.
The evening will begin with a reception serving heavy hors d'oeuvres in the Susan S. Goode Fine and Performing Arts Center lobby at 6:00 p.m. and allows guests to connect and mingle before the program starts in the theatre at 7:00 p.m. Some of the highlights of the cultural segment are:
• Blessing Ceremony by Nansemond Indian Nation Tribe
• Bharata Natyam, a Classical South Indian Dance choreographed by Malini Shrirama
• Poetry Out Loud by Teens with Purpose
• Grand Orchestra by Symphonicity
