Join BNRC and partners in celebrating the opening of the Whale Rock Trail and two new community resources! Two guided outings will explore Thomas & Palmer Brook reserve along with a special speaker, crafts, games, and autumn-inspired drinks and snacks. The event will take place unless there is severe weather. Schedule Summary: 10:00 am – 12:00 pm Guided Hike to Whale Rock 11:00 am – 12:00 pm All Ages Guided Stroll on the Meadow Loop 12:00 pm Speakers 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm Crafts & Games for Kids | Apple Cider & Cider Donuts | Self-guided Hikes Detailed Schedule: Guided Hike to Whale Rock 10:00 am – 12:00 pm 3 miles, round-trip, 1.5 - 2 hours (Moderate Trail: uneven footing and elevation changes) Join us in hiking the new trail to Whale Rock, a unique metamorphic rock feature! The Whale Rock Trail was designed and constructed by BNRC staff with construction support from BNRC volunteers, Greenagers, and the Student Conservation Association. All Ages Guided Stroll on the Meadow Loop 11:00 am – 12:00 pm 0.5 mile, round-trip 0.5 - 1 hour (Accessible Trail: gentle slope, gravel surface) Enjoy a guided stroll along the 0.5-mile Meadow Loop through the beautiful meadow. Along the way, we’ll take in the view of the expansive wetland while checking things off the scavenger hunt! The Meadow Loop was designed and built in 2020 to U.S. Forest Service Trail Accessibility Standards. The trail is approximately 0.5 mile of 6-foot-wide crushed stone surfacing with a running slope not exceeding 8% and cross slope not exceeding 5%. There are two benches and viewing areas overlooking a wetland and meadow. Across from the Koi Restaurant. For accessible parking, please use the Thomas & Palmer reserve parking lot. Otherwise, please park across the street at the Koi Restaurant and cross the road safety.
