Description
In Indiana, 1 in 9 households spend more than half of their income on housing. The COVID pandemic has highlighted that housing is slipping under the radar as one of the greatest crises that the United States faces today. But that isn't the end of the story. Greater Indy Habitat for Humanity is at work in Indianapolis and beyond to provide a path to affordable homeownership and new opportunities for families and individuals. Habitat Young Professionals (HYP) not only support that work by swinging hammers and raising roofs, but also by learning about the systems that keep housing costs high and homeownership out of reach for many Hoosiers. On Monday, October 3rd, as Habitat groups all over the U.S. celebrate World Habitat Day, HYP is hosting an evening of learning the facts, networking with other passionate advocates, and finding new ways to be a part of the solution. Join an interactive panel with the following leaders in affordable housing: Dr. JoAnna M. Brown is the President and CEO of JoAnna M. Brown & Associates, a Senior Research Fellow with Sagamore Institute (a public policy think-tank), and a Senior Analyst with Mitchell Market Analysts, Inc. Dr. Brown earned her Bachelor of Urban Planning, Master of Community Planning, and doctoral degree in Regional Development Planning at the University of Cincinnati. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and Policy from Northern Kentucky University’s Department of Political Science.Amandula Anderson is the Managing Director of Real Estate Solutions for IFF in the Indiana market. She is a graduate of Arlington High School, received her BS in Public Affairs from IUPUI and has a Masters in Real Estate Development at University of Indianapolis. In her role at IFF, she is supporting schools and nonprofits throughout the states of Indiana and Kentucky in their desire to build/move/expand in spaces that meet the needs of their clients and brings dignity to all. Joe Bowling is the Director of the Englewood Community Development Corporation and the Director of the East Washington Street Partnership. East Washington Street, one of LISC’s current FOCUS districts is one Indianapolis most heavily traveled commercial corridors. Joe has had a lead role in several transformative brownfield redevelopments, has successfully leveraged a number of federal funding sources to promote job creation and business growth along East Washington Street, and is a champion for sustainability having successfully developed Oxford Place Senior Apartments, Indiana’s fist net energy positive development on a former brownfield site. The event kicks off at 5:30 pm at Guggman Haus Brewing Co.
