We will spend about 1.5 hours at this site and then turn around and head back to ECI (The first site), take a short break, and then finish the tour there. We will spend another 2 hours at this site and end 1pm-ish More about the Project: Treetop is a post fire Ecosystem Restoration Camp located in Berry Creek, CA USA This project is part of the global Ecosystem Restoration Camps movement founded by film maker and ecologist John D. Liu. Treetop Eco Camp was formed in response to the massive 350k acre "Bear / N. Complex fire" that destroyed so much land, including the mountain towns of Feather Falls, and Berry Creek. Treetop Eco Camp aims to be a living education and demonstration site for restoring the ecosystem, infrastructructure and people after fire but also relevant for communities that live in fire threatened areas, showing them what to do to prevent catastrophic fires. In addition to native ecosystem restoration, our camp looks to educate and demonstrate appropriate technology, infrastructure and other human systems for living in a woodland fire ecology, including but not limited to: Regenerative food systems Animal systems Water harvesting earthworks and other rainwater catchment systems Waste to resource systems Low tech / passive tech fire resistant structures and other sustainable construction systems Alternative Off Grid energy systems including passive heating and cooling systems Alternative social systems including arts, crafts, education, regenerative economics, community systems, and more. We look to envision, experiment and then live a new human story that puts nature back in human nature. Our camp will be a web model, connecting several sites and projects to create a wide reach for systematic change with the local ecosystem and community. Our mission will consist of several phases of development (succession) as well as ongoing outreach programs. The camp will consist of 4 main sites (as shown above) as well as an affiliation to an unknown number of demonstration sister sites in the area. The specific function and relationship of ALL sites the Treetop will change over time as the camp develops but the main connection is to create a network of neighbors with the same goal of restoring their land and creating a new regenerative community and local resilient land based economy. Phase 1Since the Treetop Eco Camp “Main Site” still needs work before it can hold overnight camps and large gatherings, we will be hosting the camping and main gatherings at the Environment Celebration Institute, our sister site, just down the road. In the first phase of developing our camp, this site will be our main “HUB”. In addition to temporarily hosting our camps, ECI will also be a training facility for permaculture and regenerative agriculture production. Here will grow the bulk of the food and other products we will need for the camp and also to create a supplementary income stream to help cover overhead costs. Phase 2As soon as we get the Treetop Eco Camp “Main Site” up to par, we will then move to make this our permanent camp site and “HUB” to concentrate our restoration action days and events. We aim to spread our influence throughout the region, but ultimately this will be our one site in total control of the Treetop board and advisory council.. our ultimate demonstration site. Here we plan to make a stunning example of what is possible. After we move the main camp, the ECI site will shift to being strictly a training and production site as well as a long term partner in many other ways.
