How can I gain property management training/experience?

Hi, I am interested in becoming a property manager or at least finding out what it takes to do so. For instance, what type of training would I need, common software used for day to day operations? What can I do to help myself to become a person whom would be a serious consideration for such a position? Is there a secret? Can anyone help to point me in any direction toward such an aspiration? I don't even know what the going pay scale etc is. I appreciate any insights from you and thank you for your time
