Recruitment Description: The City of Ellensburg Public Works & Utilities Department has a vacancy for a full-time Senior Pipeperson in the water division. The Senior Pipeperson will be expected to address maintenance, repair, and construction of the municipal water system in a safe, efficient, and quality-focused manner. Perform assigned water system maintenance, repair, and construction; respond to water emergencies during and after regular business hours as required; participate in the weekly on-call rotation for after-hour emergencies. Participate in continuing education programs to maintain current knowledge of methods, laws, and regulations governing water quality; participate in safety training and maintain required licenses and certifications. Serve on the snow removal crew and assist with the annual sealcoat program; collect system data to support GIS mapping; maintain accurate records of work performed. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervisory duties are assigned as follows: • On a rotating basis when the Foreperson is absent • When designated as project lead • During the spring/summer season to train and/or supervise temporary and student laborers Benefits include medical, dental, life, and disability insurance; Retirement under the Washington State Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), and vacation, sick leave, holidays, and employee choice days. This position is represented by the Teamster’s Local Union #760. Salary: $23.00-$30.66/hour, 40 hours/week plus excellent benefits. There is additional pay for having a WDM3 certification (additional 2%) or WDM4 certification (additional 4%.) QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) • Two (2) years of experience using the tools and skills required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position • An equivalent combination of education, formal training, and experience may be considered in lieu of the two-year minimum experience requirement CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: • Valid State Driver’s license with Class B Commercial Driver's License and Tanker Endorsement preferred. Employee will be required to have a CDL Class B and Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of employment at the expense of the employee with the option to borrow the expense of training from the City with a signed loan agreement; must maintain insurable driving record • WDM 1 certification, or ability to obtain within twelve (12) months of eligibility • Flagging Card, or ability to obtain within six (6) months • First Aid/CPR/AED Certificate, or ability to obtain within six (6) months • Trenching and Shoring training, completed per schedule • Forklift certification, completed per schedule • Asbestos handling training, completed per schedule Special Requirements: The City of Ellensburg is required by federal regulations to administer a testing program for controlled substance and alcohol use for employees required to have and maintain a CDL. This position is covered under the City of Ellensburg Substance Abuse Testing Policy.
