CANTON, MA — Canton has been designated a coronavirus "red zone" as of Thursday as positive test rates continue to rise statewide.
The town's status as a "red zone" means that is at the highest risk of COVID-19 transmission and has had at least 10 average daily cases per 10,000 residents and a 5% positivity rate.
The latest statistics released by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on Thursday reveal that there have been 866 confirmed COVID-19 case in Canton, with 171 reported in the two weeks before Dec. 31.
Canton currently has an average daily incidence rate of 52.7 and a positivity rate of 5.47%, a slight decrease from last week's average daily incidence rate of 53.3 and an increase from last week's positivity rate of 4.99%.
As of Thursday, 190 communities in Massachusetts are at high risk of COVID-19 transmission. The state reported 3,110 new cases and 105 new deaths on Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 371,097 and the total number of deaths among confirmed cases to 12,341.
