Teens Who Killed Mother, Toddler On Bayshore Plead Guilty

TAMPA, FL — Two Tampa men have pleaded guilty for racing down Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa May 23, 2018, and striking a mother traversing a crosswalk with a stroller carrying her 21-month-old daughter. Jessica Raubenolt, 24, died shortly after being taken to Tampa General Hospital. Her daughter, Lillia, died a day later. Cameron Herrin, 18, and his friend, John Barrineau, 17, had graduated from Tampa Catholic HIgh School two days before when they decided to race one another down Bayshore Boulevard. Herrin, who was in the car with his 20-year-old brother, Tristan, reportedly was going 102 mph when he struck the mother and daughter. The two teens were charged with two counts of vehicular homicide, street racing and reckless driving in the deaths of the mother and child. Herrin was driving a Ford Mustang he received as a graduation gift, racing fellower senior Barrineau, who was driving a Nissan Altima, when he struck Raubenolt and her daughter. He will be sentenced in February. He faces between 18 and 30 years in prison. Barrineau will begin a six-year prison sentence on Monday. After completing his sentence, he'll be placed on probation for 15 years and be required to complete 200 hours of community service, half of which must include speaking to the community about the dangers of reckless driving. The 4.5-mile road that meanders along Tampa Bay is a popular spot for joggers, rollerbladers, sightseers and dog walkers. The city reduced the speed limit on Bayshore Boulevard from 40 to 34 miles an hour, added crosswalks with better visibility, installed flashing beacons and re-striped the narrow driving lanes. However, the Tampa City Council stopped short at the residents' request to reduce the speed limit to 25 mph, reduce the number of lanes and create a linear park along Bayshore. The Raubenolts traveled from Ohio to visit Jessica Raubenolt's uncle, John Reisinger, who lives off Bayshore Boulevard. Reisinger said Jessica Raubenolt especially loved walking her young daughter in her stroller down the scenic boulevard overlooking Hillsborough Bay. The mother and daughter had been enjoying such a walk on Bayshore May 23 and were just crossing the four-lane road at the crosswalk to return to Reisinger's home when they were struck.
