October is Domestic Violence Awareness month and this is a great opportunity to network and learn about the Orange County Family Justice Center and our partners. A Model for Reducing Family Violence The Family Justice Center model helps break the dangerous cycle of interconnected forms of violence through integrated, trauma-informed services for victims and their children. Clients are supported through their initial trauma and longer term recovery with coordinated services co-located under one roof. Because children exposed to violence are at higher risk for using violence later in life and having poor health and educational outcomes, Family Justice Centers provide trauma informed therapy, mentoring, and empowerment and prevention programs that serve to break the cycle of violence for children.Front Line Responders Family Justice Centers meet the immediate safety needs of victims including restraining orders, family court assistance, health care services, mental health therapy, housing, and financial stability. Family Justice Centers provide integrated case management that help victims and their families recover from the devastating impact of violence while streamlining victim’s interactions with the complex criminal justice, health, and social service systems. Fully Committed to Victims Family Justice Centers are fully committed to the victims of abuse. In a Family Justice Center, a victim is not required to repeat their story of abuse. Victims are supported with safety planning that includes children. If they move to a different location for their safety, Family Justice Centers coordinate services, connecting victims with their new local center
