Overview: A course designed to empower those who love children with ASD and give them knowledge to make informed decisions regarding their care. Primary focus on improving function with a variety of techniques that are as individual as the people diagnosed with Autism, and Sensory Processing difficulties.
Course Objectives:
• Identify general characteristics and types of Autism and sensory processing.
• Explain the basic functions of the sensory systems and how it effects arousal and energy levels.
• Identify what subtle and obvious types of stimulus can activate, hype, or calm a child.
• Describe a variety of simple, home-made supports to help calm a child.
• Identify current alternative trends and therapies about which parents are asking questions.
This course will be administered live, on-site in San Marcos AND virtually! This course has been submitted for approval to the Texas Associations, TOTA, TPTA and TSHA and is pending review with ASHA, APTA and AOTA.
