Description

THE SERIESUC Irvine’s MFA Programs in Writing admit just six fiction writers & six poets per year out of 1000+ applicants. Chosen for both their strong voices & commitment to developing their work in an intensive, intimate creative space, writers are given three funded years to produce a book-length project . The MFA Reading Series (a.k.a. Antics!) is a crucial part of the Programs in Writing, an opportunity for the writers to share their work with the larger community. Every reading features two poets and two fiction writers currently enrolled in the program, each of whom reads for around fifteen minutes, providing a sampling of their work. THE READERSAmaka Nwabunnia is a second-year poetry student from the Washington D.C. area. She came to Irvine immediately following a B.A. from Georgetown University in Political Science and Creative Writing. Hallie Gayle is a writer from North Texas. She has since then lived in South Africa, Vietnam and California. She is in her third year, working on a collection of stories. Alejandro Derieux-Cerezo is a first-year poetry student from Ann Arbor, Michigan. His poems have appeared in The Adroit Journal, among other places. Tonya Shenandoah (K^nikanlahtá:sa’) is a first-year fiction student from Oneida Indian Nation in Upstate New York. Her work has appeared/forthcoming in Eunoia Review and One Hundred Word Story.
