Description
Only to the BEST home. Beautiful and extremely sweet and gentle male german shepherd. Approx 2-3yo, 85 lbs and neutered at the end of July. I rescued him from the shelter 2 months ago, and he is ready for a forever home with someone who likes to give belly rubs. He has plenty of energy, but not too much. Very lazy at home, and does not have separation anxiety, but he is still young and big, and I would love for him to go to someone who is home a lot and can take him for at least one good walk a day. If he gets bored he has been known to relocate shoes and clothes and tear apart stuffed animals or find treats that you left in your pants pockets. But other than that, he does not chew or destroy anything, and does not bark much, although he has a fierce-sounding bark when strangers come to the door. Someone who has had a dog before would be ideal, since he does have some leash reactivity with other dogs and cats and might growl when meeting other dogs on-leash, but he has lived with other dogs and a cat, and does great off-leash at the dog park/beach. He is learning to play with other dogs, and likes to chase some at the park, but mostly comes back to hang by you. He is a Velcro dog, so if you don’t want to be followed around and have him appear all the time when you’re moving around the house, especially in the middle of the hallway when you’re trying to get through lol, then he might not be the one for you. He is a leaner and loves being petted. He does leave you alone if you work from home, etc. and is content laying in another room or outside if you need some space. He is doing really well walking on a leash. I have been using a gentle leader harness since he does get excited sometimes, but with few distractions and enough exercise, he will walk nicely by your side and will sit when you stop, etc, especially if you have treats. He is the type of dog that could be trained to be a service dog. Very people-oriented and food-motivated. He does not know how to play with toys or chase balls, but I am sure he could learn. Not sure how he is around water – he was scared of the waves at the beach. Gets compliments everywhere he goes, and brings smiles to people’s faces with his bouncy ears. We trust him around our 2 and 3yo and he is used to a noisy household and I’m sure he would be fine around babies, but he is a big boy and does occasionally lean on the little ones at the wrong times and push them into furniture, or steps on them by accident. He is not possessive of food or toys. He loves to ride in cars, especially if he can stick his head out the window, but might climb around in the vehicle and try to be a lap dog if you let him, so a car harness or leash is recommended! Other things – he was nervous about having a leash put on him, and is still scared when my husband tries to do so, so he does need an understanding owner. With a little patience, he will learn exactly what you want from him. Not crate-trained, but he is house-trained and we have not let him sleep in our bed. He does come with some food and supplies and flea/tick/heartworm med, so I am asking a rehoming fee of $250. We have been calling him Tungsten. Lastly, he does have a sister that he grew up with and was rescued from the shelter at the same time. She is in the last 2 pictures, on the right. She is with a couple in Escondido, and if you would be open to seeing them on rare occasion to let the dogs play together, that would be really cool. I would love to receive updates occasionally too, and will take him back if anything changes. He is seriously the sweetest dog and we will miss him, but we want to be able to rescue more dogs. I have his Embark DNA test results – a full panel showing no genetic flags or inbreeding. Clean bill of health from the vet, and has all his shots. I ordered the DNA test to see what he was mixed with.. was shocked to see that he’s not! He is a very rare coloring. We are in OB. Tell me about your situation, and ask me any/all questions. Text me anytime. Micki
