ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Eight new COVID-19 deaths were reported between Dec. 31 and Jan. 4, according to Rockland County health officials. December was a deadly month. The death toll, which reached 700 at the end of November, now stands at 779. Still, it pales in comparison to the spring of 2020. The first case was confirmed March 8 and the local death toll hit 600 in mid-May. Since March 8, Rockland has confirmed 28,335 coronavirus cases. There are currently 96 people hospitalized in the county with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19. Rockland's positivity rate is average for the Hudson region.
