Description
This is a full-time position at the University of Florida, Indian River Research and Education Center (IRREC) to maintain infrastructural integrity by coordinating repairs, janitorial services, preventative maintenance, and life safety systems for all buildings at IRREC as well as supervise assigned maintenance and custodial staff. Maintenance includes minor painting, plumbing, electrical work, repair and preventative maintenance of HVAC units, evaporative coolers, exhaust fans, walk-in ovens, freezer units, and associated building automation systems, and use of a forklift. The person will keep accurate records for safety equipment, preventative maintenance, and certifications. Coordination with UF Environmental Health and Safety and state fire marshals as needed for related tasks such as inspection and management of hazardous waste material is required. Must work in varying conditions, including mechanical rooms, on the roof, and both indoors and outdoors. Duties may require working from an aerial lift or ladder. Qualifications Minimum qualifications: A high school diploma (or equivalent) and at least four (4) years of experience in the field or in a related area. Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License. Ability to lift 50 lbs. THIS POSITION REQUIRES A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK AND A POST-OFFER HEALTH ASSESSMENT. Preferred: 1) Knowledge of HVAC systems and equipment, including 3-5 years of experience with building automation systems; 2) Electrician’s license; 3) Knowledge of plumbing systems; 4) Knowledge of general building maintenance; 5) Ability to organize and coordinate work assignments; 6) Basis computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets); 7) Effective oral and written communication skills. Normal Work Schedule 8 hours a day, 5 days a week – 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., or alternate schedule approved by supervisor. Overtime required to meet emergency situations. This position is considered Essential Personnel for purposes of staffing and emergency response. Background Information: The Indian River Research and Education Center is located west of Fort Pierce, St. Lucie County. The internationally recognized research center is in a major agricultural region in which nurseries, citrus, beef cattle, and vegetables are major industries.
