Description
Who and what is this workshop for?Mid-Coast Maine Reparations Collective is offering a one-day workshop for people interested in practicing the actions of reparations within their organization, business or family. Reparations can take many forms. Some examples are tithing a percentage of income or profits to an Indigenous, Black or People of Color led organization; engaging in the process of land return to the Wabanaki Nation; or working at local, state or national level for laws that promote equality and justice. These are just a few examples of what material reparations can look like. Donations, however, are not reparations. What differentiates reparations from donations is that acts of reparation include an on-going process of deep listening to those who have been and continue to be harmed, identifying as the party who has committed and continues to benefit from that harm (this is new and challenging for some). Reparations includes responding to the stated needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in our communities, and actively unlearning colonizer and white supremacy-thinking. This workshop is meant to catalyze action in people who are already thinking about reparations. The day will be interactive with small breakout groups. You'll get to ask hard questions and wrestle with the answers together. We hope you leave more equipped to move forward with an action plan for your family, organization or business. If you attended the Anti-Racism & Reparations Workshop in February, this is a great next step to deepen your practice. Date & TimeSaturday, October 1st, 2022 • 9 am - 4 pm Lunch break from 12-1.
