Description
This workshop is about learning anatomy for yoga in a way that is informative, fun, and useful for both teachers and students alike. Gain practical knowledge on how your physical body functions on an anatomical level. Explore skeletal anatomy and physiology, movements and joint safety. What does it mean to have a ‘Neutral Pelvis’, and why is it so important to the function and health of your whole body? Find your 'neutral pelvis' along with the rest of the kinetic chain. Learn how to stand and sit in a neutral position. Learn how to walk efficiently and as the body was intended to move. Learn why 'flat feet' perhaps mean that your hips are not working hard enough. Learn why this area is so important to the health and well-being of your whole body. We will delve into the anatomy and discover the regional interdependence of the "core" to the rest of the body, understanding why everything comes back to the core. By effectively using the levers extending from this region of the body, using it as a stable base, we can perform our daily activities with more ease, and without pain. Join us in exploring the wonderful world of bones and muscles and understand experiential, functional anatomy. With Kayla Robison, PT, DPT, CSCS, EP-C, Fellow Graduate (NAIOMT), Director of Sports Rehabilitation, PT to Team USA's Olympic and Para-Olympic athletes. There are countless miracles happening in our physical bodies every moment, but do you know how you work? In this workshop you will establish the bony landmarks of the lower body and understand their connection to each other in a kinetic chain.] Through tactile and visual impressions you will learn kinesthetic awareness and gain an understanding of the architectural structure of your individual body. Knowledge of your body leads to awareness in the art of alignment, and efficient use of your body, which is key to realizing the full benefits of your yoga practice. Explore the major systems of the human body, the bones, the joints, muscles, ligaments, and tendons and how they work together. To move better, more effectively, and safely, you need to know ‘how’ you move, anatomically. By understanding your body you are better able to ‘communicate’ with your body, and with awareness of your ‘structure’ you are better able to ‘go with the flow’ rather than against it.
