WINTER HAVEN, FL — A 15-year-old girl has been airlifted to a hospital after she was hit by a car early Thursday morning in Winter Haven, police said. The Winter Haven High School student was riding a bicycle on Avenue G NW near 22nd Street NW when a car hit her, according to investigators. The incident took place near a bus stop, and she suffered serious injuries. The driver who hit her did cooperate with police. As Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies investigate the crash, Avenue G NW and Lake Howard Drive will remain closed. Drivers are asked to take alternate routes, detectives said. Due to Marsy's Law, the name of the victim will not be released by the Winter Haven Police Department.
