Drop the Drugs, Inc and the Psi Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority are partnering to host a free community event for DEA Take-Back Day. Attendees will enjoy a movie screening and discussion with the star and producer of "Discarded Things", Karen Abercrombie. Abercrombie has a long list of stage, TV and film credits to her name and recently added producer to her list of credits. She co-wrote and produced her first feature film, “Discarded Things” through her new film production company, Earth Mother Entertainment. Abercrombie is best known for her portrayal of the eighty-year-old, prayer warrior, Miss Clara, in the faith-based film, “War Room”. She received a Dove Award and a Movie Guide Grace Award for her performance in that film. The critically acclaimed movie “Discarded Things” deftly demonstrates the life-changing impact of using drugs to self-medicate through grief. Pharmacy students from UNTHSC and members of Psi Zeta will distribute educational resources and provide information on how to safely dispose of medications for free year-round at DEA-approved drop-off sites. The actress experienced her big break in the Kendrick Brothers’ War Room in 2015, which she auditioned for in her own Mooresville, NC, church before filming it locally. Today, we are a 501(c)(3) working with law enforcement and other community partners to combat the public health crisis of drug mismanagement . Our strategic objectives are to prevent poisoning and overdose, prevent addiction, and protect the environment.
