Description

According to the California Fact Sheet on Gun Safety, in 2021, California was ranked as the #1 state for gun safety by the Giffords Law Center and the state saw a 37% lower gun death rate than the national average. According to the CDC, California’s gun death rate for adults was the 44th lowest in the nation and is 58% lower than the national average for child deaths. Despite these successes, the threat and actual loss from gun violence devastates families and communities far too often. Preventing gun violence and helping families heal and recover from gun violence is vital to the health of our communities. Prosecutors Alliance is hosting an all-day in person conference on gun violence in Northern (Oakland) and Southern (Los Angeles) California for victim advocates from across the state. This all day in person training Preventing, Interrupting and Healing from Gun Violence will provide a unique opportunity to learn from advocates, practitioners and survivors who work to prevent, interrupt, and help victims and survivors of gun violence throughout California. Speakers from Survivor Lead Organizations, Trauma Recovery Centers, Trauma Hospital based programs, and foundations will share their work, services, and resources to help advocates prepare, plan, and respond to victims and survivors of gun violence.
