Please join us on Wednesday, September 28, for a live stream of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health – a national conversation about food security, nutrition, and health. We expect the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to release a blueprint national strategy with actions the federal government will take to drive solutions to these challenges. It’s been more than 50 years since the first and only White House Conference on Food, Nutrition, and Health. The outcomes from the 1968 event led to actions that included the creation of life changing programs like school lunches, the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), and changes to information provided on food labels. The Food Bank of Northern Nevada organized and facilitated listening sessions with local families who face hunger, in advance of the national conference, to offer local insight for the issue. The Food Bank of Northern Nevada was one of about 50 food banks along with Feeding America who helped in this effort to tell the story of what people face across the country . There will be a short conversion following the policy announcements on how we can continue the work in our community. The event will be held in the Washoe County Commission Chambers, Building A.
