Description

Country singer and acoustic guitar player putting together a band in the SB area. Have a pedal steel / lap steel player and looking to build out a proper country outfit. I play original music, but my style is steeped in traditional country western, old timey, and 'Americana'. Influences include Hank Williams and the Carter Family, Kitty Wells, Charlie Patton, Sammi Smith, Kris Kristofferson, Emmylou, Johnny Cash, you get the picture. Basically 50s and 60s honky tonk thru the Bakersfield sound, yes and some 70s outlaw country and also traditional music from the 20s-40s, folk music and country blues, old time, cowboy music, and bluegrass. I can yodel like Jimmie Rodgers and pick like Maybelle Carter, but I’m my own creature and I'm not trying to imitate anybody. I’m a poet and a songwriter and I’ve published books and been in a handful of bands on the east and west coasts. I have an album coming out in spring and want to rehearse that to prepare for the release and some regional touring (or beyond). I’m looking for serious, talented musicians who are available to rehearse weekly and gig regularly. I can't promise lots of dough right now but I'll do my best to compensate us for gigs. I am specifically looking for: -A harmony singer/s—tight harmonies, so preferably someone in a tenor / contralto range, but I’m open. I consider voice its own instrument, but if you happen to play a non-bodily instrument too, well done. -Electric guitar player—someone who can play tastefully and melodically, and who knows how to play country music. Looking for someone who can hear the song and play appropriately. -Fiddle player—someone with chops and a good sense of melody -Bass player (electric or acoustic / upright / standup)—someone with a solid pocket who knows how to drive a groove -Drummer—someone also with a solid pocket who can play simply—slow waltzes and fast train beats--brushes, etc., snare, kick and high hat Other desirable instruments: -Dobro, banjo, mandolin, piano or keys, harmonica, accordian I’m looking for kind, easy-going people who have their life together and want to have fun and be successful in the music business. I’m easy to get along with and that’s what I’m looking for in bandmates. I'm queer and trans and mixed race. LGBTQ2SIA+ and POC strongly encouraged. In terms of band models, think Emmylou and her hot band from the 70s. Or Waylon Jennings. Or Hank Williams. Or Willie's band. Email me if interested and I'll send you more info and music.
