Updated Tuesday at 11 p.m. MANATEE COUNTY, FL — Three new coronavirus cases have been reported in local schools even before the Manatee County School District reopens Wednesday following winter break. One student and one staff member at Manatee High School have tested positive for the virus, according to the district's COVID-19 dashboard. The district reported the student's case Monday afternoon, while the staff member's positive test was reported Tuesday. An employee at the Matzke Support Center also tested positive for COVID-19. Their case was also reported Tuesday. Forty-one people at Manatee High and one at MSC have also been quarantined for two weeks due to direct exposure to the virus. The dashboard didn't say whether these 42 individuals were students or staff. During the week of Dec. 14, right before schools closed for the break, 53 students and 13 staff members in all Manatee County schools tested positive for coronavirus, and 664 individuals were quarantined because of direct exposure. Since the 2020-21 school year started in mid-August through Tuesday, 422 coronavirus cases have been reported in the district. During this time, 4,522 students and staff members were also quarantined due to direct exposure. Like what you're reading?
