Ground Support Equipment Worker (Tech 2) SUMMARY The Ground Support Equipment Worker makes repairs to Ground Support Equipment (GSE) following orders of a higher-grade worker, troubleshooting malfunctions of GSE using conventional and digital multi-meters, voltmeters, ohmmeters, frequency counters, oscilloscopes, circuit card testers, transistor testers, and hand tools, prepares GSE for storage and transportation, uses automated maintenance data systems to maintain equipment records, and document maintenance actions, maintains external fuel and grounding systems. This worker performs scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on GSE, inspects, tests, and operates GSE to determine equipment serviceability and proper operation, services equipment with fuel, oil, water, coolant, hydraulic fluid, refrigerant, and compressed air, disassembles and assembles malfunctioning GSE accessories and components. In addition, the Ground Support Equipment Worker removes, disassembles repairs, cleans, treats for corrosion, assembles, and reinstalls GSE components and accessories, stencils and marks GSE in accordance with technical publications, stores, handles, labels, uses, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with all state, local, and federal environmental standards and regulations, operates, cleans, inspects, and services GSE towing vehicles; maintains vehicle records, maintains and updates paper and electronic equipment records, provides dispatch service for GSE, including positioning equipment to support aircraft maintenance and flying operations, and practices good housekeeping, tool control, Foreign Object Damage prevention and safety at all The GSE position is a support services position whose work routine is established and follows a set of procedures. It generally functions under close supervisory direction or guidance of the GSE Manager. Essential Duties of GSE’s • Safe and efficient operations of all ground service equipment • Operate ground service equipment (GSE). • Operate aircraft de-icing equipment. • General tune-up of GSE. • Order/pick-up parts for vehicle maintenance. • Responsible for maintaining safety and security of the ramp at all times • Observe safe ground handling procedures and maintenance of ground handling equipment, including the performance of equipment checks • Miscellaneous duties as assigned by Supervisor and Manager This Position Requires: • Less than 5 years of heavy equipment maintenance experience • Be at least 18 years of age • Must be willing to work in inclement weather • Good communication skills • Must be a U.S. citizen or show proof of right to work in the U.S. • High School graduate or GED • Possess a valid driver’s license • Ability to lift 60 pounds comfortably • Able to fluently read, write, speak and understand English • Friendly and outgoing personality • Ability to work under stressful situations and tight time constraints • Must be a self starter and willing to take the initiative • able and willing to work without direct supervision • Required to work nights, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules • Successfully complete a background investigation, including FBI fingerprints, criminal history and pre-employment drug test • Accept all other assigned duties as a team Physical Demands: Background position skill ranking areas: Language Skills: Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, electrical and hydraulic schematics. Reasoning Abilities: Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram form. Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations. Physical Demands: moderate. The GSE on occasion may lift or move with help up to 200 pounds, and/or more frequently lift or move 70 to 100 pounds, and constantly lift or move up to 50 pounds the GSE is regularly required to use hands, talk, hear, bend, stoop, kneel, and is frequently required to stand, walk. The GSE may be required to climb, sit, and balance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. The GSE is usually working outside and is exposed to all types of weather conditions with a seasonal range of temperatures which include rain, snow, wind and extreme temperatures. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can vary dramatically depending on location and time of day. Occasionally high noise levels where hearing protection is required and provided.
