In 1860, the year before the Civil War, only 1.6% of U. S. citizens were slave-owners. One point Six percent. AND..... They were ALL Democrats. So, we're talking about the rich, elite, 1.6% of the population who owned slaves and convinced half of the country to fight for them. Right now, we have the rich, elite 1% in Washington DC, trying to do the same thing.
