We have enjoyed seeing members and others on our paddles the last few years. While we are not a club, we like highlighting various sites around the sound. It is great to build community in various areas through paddles, picnics and barbeques. We do need more qualified leaders and a few people have said they would love to lead more tours but don't feel they have the knowledge. For this reason we are putting on this Leadership Safety Course. This will be in two parts; a hybrid class from the classroom at the Good Shepherd Center, and an on-water class on Greenlake. We may then do a follow-up session on the Puget Sound. Of course the Puget Sound is subject to colder water (around forty-five degrees), winds, etc. Here is a basic outline: 5:00 Set-up, meet and greet with pizza 5:30 pm Hybrid session: Learning and Leadership Styles taught primarily by Andree Hurley - We will send out two fun self-assessment exercises in advance which we will then explore during the first hour. 6:30 pm Planning & Preparation taught primarily by Robert Nissenbaum We'll cover the added skills and gear recommended trip leaders have and why as well as what skills and tools are necessary to plan a safe, fun day on the water.
