WASHINGTON, DC — U.S. Rep. Thomas Suozzi was inside the Capitol Wednesday as protesters breached the building to protest the certification of votes for President-elect Joe Biden.
"The doors have been locked as protesters have breached Capitol Police security," Suozzi wrote on Facebook at about 2:30 p.m. "I believe that debate will begin again soon. We must simply rely on our values and get through this day. Do not be afraid."
Suozzi, a two-term congressman, thanked Capitol police.

On Tuesday, he decried a move by a contingent of Republican colleagues to block the certification of votes for President-elect Biden. Suozzi said there has been no evidence of election fraud and some of his colleagues are violating their constitutional duty, calling it "sad" and "inappropriate."
"We'll get through this; we will just keep pushing forward together," he said.
