MoCA Westport invites all high school students to submit works of art for a new High School Student Art Exhibition, Hindsight is 2020, on view January 23 - March 6, 2021. The exhibition will be the first student in-person show at MoCA Westport's new Museum space, located at 19 Newtown Turnpike in Westport, CT. The Museum also presented an online student exhibition in July 2020. Hindsight is 2020 will feature submissions created during the year 2020, illustrating a diverse portrait of what young people have been experiencing and observing during these challenging and unique times. All high school students may submit one work, and all works will be accepted. Submissions are due Monday, January 11, 2021. Significant cash prizes will be awarded in the amounts of $500, $300, and $100 for First, Second, and Third Place. Jurists for the exhibition will include Paul Efstathiou, Amy Kaplan and a member of MoCA Westport's 2020-2021 Teen Council. Efstathiou is currently the Director of Contemporary Arts at Hollis Taggart Gallery, and is a second-generation art dealer and independent curator, with 17 years of experience. From 2004 to 2016, he ran PTE Fine Arts, an arts consultancy and showroom, in partnership with his brother, Eric Efstathiou. In 2016, he established the exhibition series Highlight Curated, as a means of bringing new attention to and advancing the careers of contemporary artists. Kaplan is an elected member of Westport's Representative Town Meeting, a former Member of the Ridgefield Guild of Artists, and a current Board Member of the Artists Collective of Westport. She is also an established artist, event planner, and producer of local pop up exhibitions. "We look forward to bringing together a diverse and expansive exhibition portraying the many creative and expressive voices of our community's youth," explained Liz Leggett, MoCA Westport's Director of Exhibitions. "We will have both an in-person and online component of the exhibition, to ensure as many people as possible can experience the works," she added. There is an entry fee of $10/entry; scholarships to waive this fee are available. Details on timing and the submission process are available on mocawestport.org.
